  • Joshua Kutryk will be the next Canadian Space Agency astronaut to fly to the International Space Station

    Canadian Space Agency astronaut Joshua Kutryk will be the next Canadian to fly to the International Space Station. This will be the first mission by a CSA astronaut under NASA's Commercial Crew Program.

  • CSA astronaut Jenni Gibbons is the designated Canadian backup for Artemis II

    On November 22, surrounded by CSA employees, students and media representatives, the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister responsible for the CSA, announced that CSA astronaut Jenni Gibbons will serve as the Canadian backup astronaut for the historic Artemis II mission to the Moon.

    In 2009, Joshua Kutryk was in the running to become an astronaut. He was not selected, but he didn’t let himself get discouraged. He tried again eight years later when the CSA launched another astronaut recruitment campaign. This time, his determination paid off. In this video, Joshua Kutryk explains where he gets his strength of character and perseverance. From his childhood in Alberta to his training as an astronaut, he talks about the people and moments that changed his life and pushed him to follow his dreams, even the most ambitious ones. He will soon go on a mission of about six months to the International Space Station.
